Owen C. "Rob" Wemhoff, 85, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Allisonville Meadows in Fishers, Ind.
Born in Decatur, Owen was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He worked as an executive director with Child Care of Allen County for 23 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of South Milford Church of Christ and American Legion Post 215. He was also a Past President of Downtown Sertoma Club, board member of Community Action Northeast Indiana, past president of Jaycees, and executive director for Indiana Association for Retarded Citizens in Indianapolis.
His hobbies included working out, running, coaching youth basketball, playing tennis at Ball State, working in the garden, taking walks on the beach, spending time at the ocean, and collecting lighthouses. He was an avid Detroit Tigers, Colts and IU basketball fan, but Owen's greatest passion was spending time with his family.
Among survivors are six children, Charles D. (Julie) Wemhoff of Carmel; Stacey D. Wemhoff of Indianapolis; Robin Lawhead of Cincinnati, Ohio; Lynn Myers of Bluffton; Michael Shartek and Christine Narsico both of Florida.; a sister, Eleanor Affolder of Decatur; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Fannie Wemhoff; loving wife of 38 years, Phyllis M. Wemhoff; daughter, Lynda Helms; brother, Don Wemhoff; and sister, Mildred Reber.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 3, and 9-10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial and a cemetery service will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Woodruff Cemetery in Wolcottville, Ind.
Preferred memorials are to South Milford Church of Christ, or Phyllis Wemhoff Memorial Scholarship Fund for student members of South Milford Church of Christ.
