Orr clinches SA board seat
By BOB SHRALUKA
With no provisional ballots changing the final vote totals and the runnerup not planning to seek a recount, Amy Orr on Friday won a seat on the South Adams School Board.
Actually, a new seat.
Orr currently holds the District 3 seat on the board, but sought the at-large seat being vacated by Steve Dobler, who did not file for a new term. Orr reportedly is planning to move out of District 3.
She clinched the at-large post on Friday when the county election board met to count provisional ballots from the November 6 election. Orr was a three-vote victor over Gresham (Bud) Bearrs, 1,192 to 1,189.
Asked Friday by the Daily Democrat if he had any plans to seek a recount, Bearrs replied: "Absolutely not."
Friday's clincher for Orr means the South Adams board will have to fill two seats: the one being vacated by Orr and the one being vacated by Tony Mellencamp, who will resign effective the first of the year when he becomes a member of Adams County Council.
