The streets of Berne came alive Thursday as hundreds of people flocked the downtown area for the opening ceremonies of the 37th annual Swiss Days Festival being held through Saturday.
Mayor Bill McKean opened the event under the big top at the main stage, speaking of the rich Swiss culture in Berne and thanking the Swiss Days committee and area residents who help make the event a success year after year.
Following the signing of the National and Swiss Anthems, sang by Sidney Sprunger and Alexis Cromey respectively, the little ones took the stage — and the spotlight — as the ever popular Little Miss Swiss Days was held. Young ladies from around the area overwhelmed the crowd with cuteness during the event, waving and blowing kisses as they made their way across the stage.
