One NA candidate out of running

April 4, 2012

    Then there were two.
Mayor John Schultz said at Tuesday night's city council meeting that Ada Steiner, one of three candidate for the city-appointed seat on the North Adams School Board, has been disqualified as it was learned she does not reside in the city.
The person to be appointed by council must live within Decatur's city limits.
So that leaves two candidates: Ben Faurote, who currently holds the seat, and Stacey Bussel.
It was decided at the meeting that the two candidates will be interviewed starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, in City Hall's council chambers.
The following Tuesday, April 17, the date for the next council meeting, the selection will be made by the five council members.

WHY?

I don't understand why a candidate has to live withing the city limits. As long as they have a Decatur address then they should be allowed to considered. I don't know this particular candidate, so I can't say that they have a Decatur address but they should still be considered. I don't live within the city limits but my kid's still attend at North Adams so as a parent I should have that ability to qualify for consideration as a member of the school board.
