BERNE—Bellmont dominated the winner's stand Friday night in the girls portion of the South Adams Track Invitational but it was the depth of the Norwell girls that gave the Knights a 130-105 win over the Squaws in a nine-team field.
Bellmont swept eight of the 15 events on the night and in the process of doing so set one new and tied one Bellmont school record, and shattered four SA Invitational marks.
Usual Bellmont stalwarts Alexis Harvey and Holly Hankenson didn't disappoint as they were named as co-winners of the top point producer at the end of the meet with each winning three individual events and being on one triumphant relay team for 32.5 team points each.
"It was a good meet for us," reported Bellmont coach Carl Risch, pointing out that "we pretty much got the points we thought we would. We knew going in that the only way to win would be if Norwell (which won four events on the night) were to stumble a little but they had a good night too and their depth is very strong. They have two good athletes in most every event and were too strong for us."
South Adams' Hannah Mitchel notched a victory for the Starfires in the discus throw with her effort measured at 101'10, over eight feet better than second place and she posted a second place spot in the shot put with a heave of 35'7 1/2.
Eastbrook nailed down the other two events and was a solid third with 70 points. They were followed by South Adams 56, Adams Central 52, Heritage 28.5, Canterbury 19, and Bluffton 1.5. Seton Catholic was entered in the meet but did not score.
