Norman Van "Norm" Miller, 72, of Convoy, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on May 18, 2011. He died at Select Specialty Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Norm was born on March 25, 1939, in Van Wert County, Ohio. He was the son of Van and Pearl (Fisk) Miller and stepmother Helen F. Miller.
On October 31, 1964, he married Arlene Arens.
Norm was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur.
He worked for Uniroyal B.F. Goodrich's Fort Wayne plant and the Van Wert County, Ohio engineer and was also a farmer.
He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964. While serving in the Army, he was trained as a tank mechanic and was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Hood, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Miller of Convoy; two sons, Jeffery (Maria) Miller of Antwerp, Ohio, and Jonathan (Sara) Miller of Convoy; four daughters, Julie (Doyle) Sheets, Jean Miller, and Janice (Troy) Fleming, all of Decatur, and Jacqueline (Raymond) Sheets of Convoy; two grandsons; nine granddaughters; and a sister, June (Arthur) Krauss of Hoagland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, and a sister, Janet Gibson.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur.
A 9:20 a.m. prayer service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011, at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Father David Voors will be officiating.
Burial will be in Kings/Bethlehem Cemetery at Convoy, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 43 of Decatur.
Memorials are to the American Cancer Society or to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
