New-look North Adams board's first meeting set

January 7, 2013

The North Adams Community School's board of education will meet for the first time of 2013 — and for the first time with its new seven-member format — at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the district administration building.
New members Mark Bulmahn and Al Converset will be seated on the board to start the new year, joining incumbents Tim Ehlerding, Michelle Stimpson, Ben Faurote, Deb Bergman and Stacey Bussel.
Bulmahn won a District 2 seat on the board in the November general election by being the top vote-getter in the district. Converset won a District 1 seat that is to begin July 1, 2014. He was appointed to fill the remainder of Ehlerding's term after Ehlerding won a new term by being to top vote-getter in District 1 voting.

Items listed on the board's agenda include an update on the search for a new superintendent of schools. Current superintendent Dr. Wylie Sirk last month announced his retirement, effective July 1.
Other board business will include a report on the district's facility study, the reorganization of the board and a report on transportation, building and grounds.
The board will meet that evening in executive session at 6:30 p.m. for the evaluation of personnel, to receive information about prospective employees and to discuss training for school board members, according to the agenda.
