New judicial center, yes; where? Uh...

August 14, 2013

The main topic of discussion at Tuesday's meeting of the courthouse project committee was the location of the proposed Adams County Judicial Center.
Decatur native Cory Miller of SchenkelShultz Architecture, filling in for Dave Sholl, reminded the committee that it has so far agreed to a three-story plan—with the lowest story open to future expansion—, and the location choices have been narrowed down to Madison Street between Second and Third Street, or Third Street, north of where the superior court building is located.
County Attorney Mark Burry reminded the committee that no property has been acquired yet, and he still needs to speak with landowners on Madison Street. He also said he would like to have Sholl walk through the building where the center might go to get an idea of demolition costs. The bond council had informed him that because the project will cost less than $12 million, statute does not require a 60-day waiting period for the approval process.
