New court on 1st street?

August 13, 2014

The city of Decatur would like Adams County officials to consider constructing a new superior court building at the corner of 1st and Madison streets rather than on 3rd Street adjacent to the courthouse.
In an effort to entice county officials to select the 1st Street location, Decatur Mayor John Schultz and City Attorney Tim Baker appeared before Adams County Council Tuesday morning and said the city is willing to make up the difference between the acquisition and demolition costs of the two sites.
Schultz stated that in preparation for consideration of a state-wide Stellar grant, community members developed a strategic investment plan which included information on how to develop the downtown Decatur area. Specific to the downtown revitalization plan was development of property along the river corridor, Schultz explained.
