New communications position at NA ‘should pay for itself,’ according to board, Lehman

May 15, 2014

“If this position isn’t paying for itself or being profitable after three years, the board has either hired the wrong person or created the wrong position,”
 said board member Al Converset.

North Adams Community Schools will create a communications position to help project a positive image of the school district and its students’  accomplishments. The announcement of the new position came at Tuesday’s monthly board of education meeting.
The new position, according to Superintendent Brent Lehman, will entail a person communicating the good works of the schools with the community — with the goal of bringing and retaining students at North Adams schools — as well as consolidating and organizing  fundraiser and other tasks.
Lehman admitted that the timing is “awful” for hiring, but said he feels it is necessary to help North Adams increase student enrollment.
“The state has forced schools into being a marketplace,” board member Tim Ehlerding said. Board member Al Converset added, “North Adams needs to upgrade how they communicate, and the right person will be critical in the success of this endeavor.”
