In its search for a new superintendent, the North Adams Board of Education has been seeking public input on what the public considers to be important factors in the selection process.
As part of that desire for input, two members of the NA board attended Tuesday night's Decatur City Council to spread the word. Ben Faurote and Stacey Bussel made a 10-minute presentation to council, both underscoring the board's desire for public comment.
The current superintendent, Dr. Wylie Sirk, has announced that he will be stepping down as of July 1.
Faurote said the board hopes to have the post filled by mid-April in order to allow some time for a smooth transition.
Faurote talked briefly about the state's University Placement Team which the NA board hired to assist in the process. The team consists of representatives from Ball State, Indiana State, Indiana University and Purdue University, a foursome which charges only mileage and incidental expenses.
"We are reaching out to stakeholders and seeing what they want in a superintendent," Faurote said.
"We really want a lot of feedback," Bussel added.
Faurote passed out copies of a survey which the NA board has available at the school administration building, Adams Memorial Hospital and the Adams Public Library in Decatur. They also are available online at www.nadms.k12.in.us.
Both board members urged district patrons to obtain a survey sheet and fill it out, then bring it to the location where it was obtained or give it to a board member..
Time is short, however, as the surveys must be turned in at the administration building by 3 p.m. this Friday.
