EIGHTH GRADE GIRLS COUNTY CHAMPIONS—St. Joe earned the Adams County bragging rights for a year after winning the county tournament with a win against Adams Central and then Bellmont.     South Adams took a pair of championships for their eighth grade boys and seventh grade girls in the Adams County Middle School tournament over the weekend, while the St. Joe girls eighth grade and the Adams Central seventh grade boys were victorious as well.
    South Adams eighth grade boys had to go through Bellmont in game one where they toppled the Braves 44-32 on the strength of three double digit scorers for the Stars. SA led 27-17 at the halftime break, then 38-23 after three quarters.
    Jared Grabau had 12 points, Marcus Teeter had 11, and JD Groh had 10 for SA in the win, while Daxtyn Uhlman had 10 points to lead Bellmont with Cole Miller netting eight points.
    Against Adams Central in the championship, SA won by a similar score of 47-34 after jumping out to a big 26-15 lead at halftime. The Stars had 15 points from Teeter, 14 from Grabau, and 11 from Corbin Swygart. AC was led by Blake Bauman's 12 point effort with Andrew Hammond aiding with nine.
    The Jets topped St. Joe to get to the championship with a 45-23 victory. The Jets led by just two points at 14-12 after two quarters but outscored the Coms 20-7 in the third quarter to get the separation they needed for the win. Bauman had 13, Hammond led with 14, and Tyson Bahrke had 10 points for AC.
    The eighth grade girls' trophy belonged to St. Joe for the second season in a row after the Lady Commodores topped Adams Central in the first game 27-19 and Bellmont in the final 21-9.
    Against the Lady Jets, St. Joe trailed 11-10 at halftime but the Coms outscored AC 10-2 in the third securing the victory. Morgan Ellsworth had 13 points for St. Joe, while Ryann Velez and Lynae McDonald had four points each and Madison Macklin and Lizah Okoniewski had three points each. For AC, Haley Stinson had seven points, Taylor Biberstine had six points with nine rebounds, and six blocks, and Ashley Cobb had six points.
    In the final, St. Joe was led by Okoniewski who had 10 points, while Macklin had five, Ellsworth with four, and Velez with two. Kady Furhman had four points for Bellmont, while Abbie Lepper and Elizabeth Heck each had two points and Kenadee Roth had a free throw.
    Bellmont defeated South Adams in the semi-final game for the eighth grade 21-7. Furhmann had eight points, while Brianna Howe led with nine.
    In the seventh grade boys' tilts, Adams Central blasted St. Joe 38-14 before turning their attention to South Adams winning 45-28 for the county title.
    The Jets held St. Joe scoreless in the third quarter leading 29-10 in the win. A balanced scoring attack for the Jets was anchored by Drew Schultz' eight points. Johnny Carroll, Hunter Lotter, and Thomas Jackson all had six points, while Skyler Lehrman, Gabe Schwaller, and Tyler Lafontaine each had four points. St. Joe stats were not provided.
    Against South Adams, AC jumped to a 14-7 lead after one and 35-22 after three quarters for the 17-point win. Schultz had an impressive game for AC scoring 28 points with 11 rebounds. Carroll had four points with six assists.
    SA topped Bellmont but no stats were provided for either team.
    The Lady Stars hoisted the seventh grade girls title after knocking off Bellmont in the first game 41-17, then Adams Central in the final winning by a score of 36-5.
    Against Bellmont, Alexis Dellinger had 14 points, while Madi Wurster had 12 for the Stars. Squaw stats were not provided.
    Lily Kintz scored all five AC points coming in the fourth quarter as the Stars held the Jets scoreless for three quarters. Madi Wurster led with 12 points in the game.
    The Jets defeated St. Joe to get to the final 22-15 led by Kintz' eight points. Sami Oliver also had eight points and Ryan Burris helped with six points.
