Mosser seeking Berne position
Rod Mosser, a former coach and teacher at South Adams, Adams Central and Bluffton high schools, has announced his candidacy for the District 3 seat on Berne City Council.
Mosser, a Democrat, said he looks forward to using his education and work experience to help move Berne forward.
The District 3 seat is currently held by first-term Republican Mark Wynn.
Berne Democrat chairman Kyle Velasco said Mosser brings both education and experience to his candidacy. “To grow a community, it first takes experience,” Velasco said.
After graduating from Ball State University, Mosser taught Industrial Arts at South Adams, Adams Central and Bluffton high schools. He also coached football, basketball and track. Early in his teaching career, he served six years in the Indiana National Guard.
After retiring from education, Mosser has applied his construction skills as a self-employed contractor.
He has been married for 42 years to Jane (Lehman) Mosser. Their children are Lisa (John) Wanner, Michael (Melinda) Mosser, and Krista (Robert) Loshe. The Mossers are active members of the First Mennonite Church.
The only other announced race in the city of Berne this year is the mayoral contest, which will pit Democrat Ray Gill against Republican Bill McKean. Incumbent Mayor John Minch is not seeking re-election.
Political parties have until July 5 to slate candidates, filling vacancies on the ballot.
