More than a knee injury

June 21, 2013

Tyson Bahrke and Lisa Case, who are both battling cancer, will be honored at this year's Relay for Life by leading the Survivor's Walk which begins at noon on Saturday and opens the 2013 Adams County Relay for Life at Adams Central's football field.
Last fall during football season, Adams Central eighth grader Tyson Bahrke began to complain of pain in his left knee. Because of trouble with his right knee in the past, he had a knee brace, which he decided to use on his left knee to help with the pain. However, this proved ineffective, and his mother, Julia, took him to a physical trainer to take a look at it.
The trainer thought the pain might be caused by a ligament and referred the family to a doctor. Dr. Nicholas Nussbaum in Monroe performed an X-ray and told the Bahrkes that Tyson had a bone tumor. An MRI confirmed that Tyson had bone cancer.
