South Adams' Hannah Moore took control of the race midway through and never let up, earning the individual crown at the Bellmont Girls Cross Country Sectional Tuesday afternoon as her Starfires took second and Bellmont fifth as the Squaws extended their streak of regional qualifying to 17 straight.
Heavily-favored Homestead won the meet, taking four of the top seven places for 27 points to the 82 of South adams and 98 of Norwell. Woodlan took fourth with a 140.
Bellmont earned that fifth slot and had a new leader in frosh Cadence Faurote, who ran a career-best 21:14 despite the heat to earn 13th place overall. She would have qualified individually had the Squaws not held off Southern Wells, 149-140, for that final slot.
"I was glad to see the girls go on to the regional for a 17th straight season," said BHS coach Carl Risch.
"Times weren't all that fast, but we did have two personal bests with Faurote and Amanda Noonan with a 25:59," said the coach.
Sarah Garner, who has led Bellmont much of the year, had a 21:46 for 18th overall and Jessica Brewer, who competed Monday night in a tough soccer sectional game, went 21:52 for 21st overall for Bellmont.
Sophomore Alexis Harvey ran a 24:05 for 42nd and Olivia Babb went 24:54 for 46th for Bellmont. Noonan was 52nd and Madi Werling 65th.
Adams Central frosh Karly Prichard also had a big day, qualifying for the regional with a 15th place in n21:25. Adams Central took 8th in the 11-team field.
Moore hung right with the Homestead leaders through the early part of the race, then took over when "That was the plan," said Moore of getting out in front and staying there.
"I remember running against all of these girls at New Haven and we were pretty close, so I knew what I could do," said Moore, who finished 11 seconds ahead aof Homestead's Haley Havert. Taylor Bush of Homestead was next at 20:04 and New Haven's Brenda Diaz was fourth in 20:04. Norwell's Jami Reinhard was fifth in 20:11.

"We knew Homestead was going to win the meet, so the girls did what they had to to finish second and keep us going," said South Adams coach Clint Anderson.
"It's going to be a tough race at Marion to get into the top five," he added, noting that Huntington North and Eastbrook will be in the field Saturday.
Harvey ran her home course best for Bellmont.
Kayla Isch ran 24th for the Jets in 22:00 while Leah Spangler was 36th in 23:53. Mary Fox ran 44th in 23:22 and Olivia Mishler ran 54th and Jessica Dunn 55th.
