In Junior League play at Don Ray Memorial Park, Monroe Trophy won the season finale against Miller's Land Surveying last week, while Manley Meats lost an exciting opening tourney game against Miller's over the weekend as well.
Lilly Kintz pitched a gem for Trophy going six innings and allowing just one run on four hits with 10 K's and three walks for the win, while Kaitlyn Hawkins also went the distance for Miller's allowing seven runs on five hits with nine K's and two free passes in a loss.
Kintz slapped a triple in the win, while Celeste Shaneyfelt, Melanie Bard, Saige Hammond and Ava Kintz also had hits for the winners. Hawkins, Cassidy Johnson, and Carly Black all had hits in a loss.
In the win against Manley's, the game was tied at 2-2 after four frames when Miller's posted three in the fifth. Meats would get a run in both the fifth and sixth but would fall just short.
Hawkins picked up the win on the mound allowing four runs on four hits with nine K's in six frames. Jennifer Vetter took a no-decision pitching two innings and allowing a run on one hit with one strikeout and a free pass. Maddie DeRoo took the loss in three innings of relief allowing four runs on three hits with two K's and four walks.
Offensively, Bailea Sprunger (triple) and Jennifer Vetter each had two of the four hits for Manley's in the loss. For Miller's, Sam Currie and Hawkins each singled, while Caitlyn Emenhiser had two hits in the win.
