Monroe council donates land for new fire station
A large group of Monroe residents attended last week's town council meeting to hear whether or not the town would donate five acres of land in the Business Park for a new fire station to be built.
Monroe Volunteer Fire Chief Russell Cook told the council during the March meeting the current station is no longer big enough to house the department's equipment.
Council President Al Lehman said during the past month he has spoken with several residents about donating the land, all of whom were in support of doing so.
With Lehman asking for and receiving a motion on the issue, council voted quickly to grant the request. Lehman asked Monroe Town Attorney Jeremy Brown to begin the necessary paperwork to transfer ownership of the land from the Town of Monroe to the fire department.
