The Adams County Health Department conducted a mock “medication dispensing exercise” Wednesday morning in the Service Complex. According to Adams County Preparedness Coordinator Brenda Alexander, the mock disaster scenario was utilized to test the viability of a point of distribution, or POD, site for administering medicine on a large-scale basis in the event of a public health emergency.
Alexander noted that in such an explosive emergency, “it may be necessary for us to provide medical attention to everyone in the county in a very short period of time. Our goal in this test was to attempt to screen and administer medication to 75 individuals in the span of one hour. In the event of an emergency, an efficient POD could mean the difference between life and death.” Alexander said.
