Missing kayaker’s body found

July 1, 2014

The body of what local officials believe to be that of a Decatur kayaker missing since Friday has been retrieved from the St. Marys River near Decatur.
At approximately 10:20 a.m. Monday, the Decatur Fire Department, which was assisting the Indiana Department of Natural Resources in the search efforts, recovered what they believe to be the body of Steve Seitz, 54, who has been missing since the kayak he was operating near Pleasant Mills struck a log jam and overturned Friday.
During a systematic search of the St. Mary’s river Monday morning,  crews from the  Decatur Fire Department’s water rescue team located the body. A positive identification will be made by the Adams County Coroner’s office following an autopsy later today.
