Meyer earns All-State, area football honors

Bellmont's all-time top runningback, Daniel Meyer, received recognition this week as an All-State linebacker, and on the area Top 50 GameNight team, it was announced by team coaches.
Meyer made the coaches 3A All-State team as a linebacker. He was the top tackler on the Bellmont squad while carrying the offensive load, garnering 1481 yards on 248 attempts with 17 touchdowns. He gained 1,328 yards last year for Bellmont and had over 3,500 for his career, which is the record here. He also has over 40 touchdowns, which is also a school record.
"He's a very special player, one of the Bellmont greats. People don't know what he meant to our team," stated Bellmont football coach Rick Burkhalter.
Matt Bair and Casey O'Boyle, who put out the GameNight football magazine, put Meyer on their 2010 GameNight Fantastic 50 Team.
Special posters featuring the Top 50 players' photos will be sold for $20 each.
All-stater Jeff Shatto of Norwell also made the team as well as several players in the Northeast Hoosier Conference.
Currently, Meyer is the No. 1 rated heavyweight and has a 12-0 record for No. 11 Bellmont. Meyer is also a co-captain and leader of the wrestling team.
Meyer scored a tech fall over New Haven's Nick Pritchard Tuesday. "Daniel's on a mission to prove to the state why he is the No. 1 ranked heavyweight," stated Bellmont assistant coach Tim Myers. Meyer finished fourth in the heavyweight division as a junior.
"It's such a treat to have him on the team, and it was great for him this week to receive those awards. He has the whole package, physically, mentally, and morally. It's hard to overstate it with Daniel. He's the kind of kid that you want your kid to grow up like," complimented Myers.
Despite some injuries that took away from his work on defense at the end of the 2010 season, Meyer finished with 57 tackles at middle linebacker, first on the team next to the 34 by defensive back Will Busse.
