McCullough, Fravel play on after high school
Two Adams County natives have been making their mark on the football field in a semi-pro league for several seasons now.
Former Bellmont grad Jason McCullough and Adams Central standout Joel Fravel have each been named to the Crossroads Football League all-star team for Indiana. The team was slated to play the Ohio all-star team but due to the high price of the venue, the game was cancelled but the players were honored nonetheless with the selection.
McCullough, a Brave who graduated in 2003, plays right guard and nose tackle, while Fravel (a Jet grad from 2009) played linebacker and fullback on a team whose player set ranges from 40-45 players per team.
The league features 12 teams, six from Indiana and six from Ohio making up the CRFL and both McCullough and Fravel represented the Adams County Patriots until they folded leaving both to join the Miami County Blitz who are one of three teams in the Indiana north division. The duo are two of four members of the Blitz to be named to the league's all-star squad.
Coach Brian Raber spoke about his players, "Jason and Joel were a pleasure to coach and have on our team. Those two along with Andy Strange and Josh Lockett, put in the hard work every week and it paid off for them to make the all-star team."
Adams Memorial Hospital has sponsored the team this year and the Blitz played their games at North Miami High School and will pick up their season next year in March when practices begin. Last season, the team's record was 4-6 but several of the games were decided by a small point differential.
"It takes a tremendous amount of commitment to show up every week and play short-handed most games, but Jason, Joel, and several other guys have that as well as drive to play football and we have all become good friends based on that commitment that they put into playing with the Blitz," coach Raber noted.
The coach also stated he would have liked to see more of his players make the all-star squad including standout quarterback Josh Griffith who many felt was snubbed from the selection.
Both McCullough and Fravel plan on returning to the Blitz next season.
