Mayor praises workforce in State of City address

January 14, 2014

Workers with the city of Decatur’s street and sanitation department received an enthusiastic “Thank you” from Mayor John Schultz to start the annual State of the City address Monday. The address was delivered as part of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon series at Woodcrest retirement community.
Schultz commended the department for its quick response and efforts to clear city streets – as well as finding and repairing a water main break that drained all three standing towers – following winter storm Ion last weekend.
“They did a tremendous job under very difficult circumstances,” Schultz said. “We’re very grateful for the time and effort these people put in for our city. We’re looking into ways to hopefully prevent something like this [the water main break] from happening again.”
