May temperatures below average; few are likely to be complaining

June 5, 2014

Following the harshest winter in the past 30 years or so, and the official start of summer still more than two weeks away, many area residents are enjoying the warm weather Mother Nature has finally bestowed on Adams County.
The average May temperature in Adams County is 73 degrees, while the average low is 50.4 degrees. This year, the area averaged a high of 65.2 — nearly 8 degrees below normal — and an average low of 44.7, nearly 6 degrees below normal.
The mercury topped out at 96 in 2012, setting the bar for future springs to reach, while dipping all the way down to 25 degrees in 1979, a record low we hope stands for many years to come.
