Max L. Egley, 70, of Wolcottville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 25, 2011.
Born in Decatur, he graduated from Adams Central High School, Manchester College, and the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, from which he received a master's degree.
Max was a mathematics teacher and a basketball coach for a span of 34 years at Harrison Hill, Snider High School, and Woodlan High School before retiring in 1997.
He was a member of Summit City Bass Masters and First United Methodist Church in LaGrange.
Max was an avid golfer and fisherman.
Max and his wife enjoyed traveling, but especially enjoyed their winters in Florida.
Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Karen Egley of Wolcottville; a son, Anthony (Diane) Egley of Fort Wayne; a brother, Don (Nancy) Egley of Decatur; a sister, Carol (George) Olson of New Carlisle; three grandchildren: Bryce, Katelynne, and Catherine Egley; three nephews, Tom, Steve, and Dave Olson; one niece, Jody Hirschy; four great-nieces; and one great-nephew.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Emil Egley and Mary A. Egley; one great-niece; and one great-nephew.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011, in D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Chris Danielson will officiate.
Calling at the funeral home will be on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, from 2-5 pm and 6-8 p.m.
