Mary J. Murchland

    Mary Jane Murchland, 86, Decatur, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Markle Health and Rehabilitation.
    She was born Sunday, May 29, 1927, in Adams County, the daughter of the late Harry Oren and Emily L (Bracht) Worden. 
    She married Eugene R. “Hugo” Murchland April 13, 1947, at the Salem United Church of Christ in Magley; he passed away March 6, 2014.
  Mary Jane was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Magley, where she had taught Sunday school for many years and was a former member of the Ladies Aid.  She was a former member of the Kirkland Ladies Home Extension Club.  
  She was a graduate of Kirkland High School, where she was the salutatorian of her class and received her LPN degree from Lutheran School of Nursing. She had worked as an LPN for Lutheran Hospital for 13 years.  
    Surviving are two daughters, Donna (Dale) Nash of Craigville and Beverly Murchland of Fort Wayne; three sons, Max (Stephenie) Murchland of Markle, Kim David Murchland of Kimmel and Dean Murchland of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Virginia Smitley of Decatur; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
    Preceding Mary in death were a son, Gale Murchland; a sister, Delores Gerber; and three brothers, Kenneth Worden, Raymond Worden and Larry Worden.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Salem United Church of Christ, with Pastor Steve Hildebrand and Pastor David Butz officiating. 
    Internment will follow in the Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery.
    Friends will be received from 2-7 p.m. Tuesday at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
    Preferred memorials are to Adams County Community Foundation cancer and heart funds.
