Mary Alice Whitright, 88, of Decatur, passed away at 8:08 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2011, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
She was born November 29, 1922, in Adams County to John A. and Mary (Bernard) Kintz.
She married Harold E. “Beany” Whitright on July 12, 1943; he passed away on October 1, 1991.
She is survived by three sons, John (Maralee) Whitright, Bill (Sue) Whitright, and Jim (Phyllis) Whitright, all of Decatur; one brother, John A. (Elizabeth “Sis”) Kintz of rural Decatur; six sisters, Marjorie Schultz of Decatur; Ruth (Robert) Bahler of Anderson; Helen Ruggles of Noblesville; Berniece (Jack) Hackman of Decatur; Isabelle (Phil) Gamble of Seattle, Washington; and Patricia (Larry) Daniels of Decatur; one grandchild; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and Bill Kintz, and one sister, Dolores Read.
Mary Alice was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur and its Rosary Society.
She was a 1941 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School and a 1944 graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Fort Wayne.
She worked as homemaker and as a registered nurse at Adams County Memorial Hospital from 1944-1991. She was a member of the Adams County Retired Nurses and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 1:30 p.m.
A 10:20 a.m. prayer service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father David Voors.
Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Decatur.
Memorials may be made for masses or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
