Maria S. Alanis, 85, of Decatur, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
Maria was born on May 17, 1927, in San Juan, Texas, to the late Jose and Paula (Hinojosa) Trevino.
On May 17, 1945 she married Salvador Alanis; he preceded her in death on January 29, 1995.
Maria was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. She was a county office assistant for the U.S.D.A. Farmer’s Home Administration for 15 years and also a homemaker.
Among survivors are two sons, Mariano (Eliza) Alanis and Ruben (Edith) Alanis; three daughters, Mary (Victor) Perez, Paula Gonzalez, and Diana (Daniel) Lopez, all of Decatur; six brothers; a sister; five step-isters; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Maria was preceded in death by a daughter, Blanca Alanis; grandson, Daniel Lopez II; granddaughter, Renea Perez; grandson, Adam McCullough; a sister, two stepbrothers, and a stepsister.
Visitation will be from 11a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at St. Mary’s Parish Hall, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 10:30 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Father Patrick Joseph will be officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
