Margaret Scherer

    Margaret Scherer, 87, formerly of Decatur, died Wednesday, December 5, 2011, at The Village of Heritage nursing home in Monroeville.
    She was born on June 13, 1923 in Allen County to Charles F. and Caroline Droege Schroeder.
    She married Wilfred C. “Wiff” Scherer on April 25, 1942 in St. John Lutheran Church at Bingen, but he passed away on June 2, 1992.
  Margaret was a member of St. John Lutheran Church at Bingen.
  Surviving are one son, Kenneth Scherer of Fort Wayne; two daughters: Mrs. James (Linda) Nord of Fort Wayne and Mrs. David (Louann) Augustyniak of rural Decatur; one sister, Gertrude Dettmer of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Colone; one son, Gene Alan Scherer; three brothers: Herbert, Lawrence, and Paul Schroeder; and three sisters: Helen Conrad, Alvina Fuelling, and Olga Scherer.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. John Lutheran Church at Bingen, with Rev. Peter Brock officiating.
    Burial will be in the cemetery at St. John Lutheran Church of Bingen.
    Visiting hours will be from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and from 1-2 p.m. Sunday in the church.
    Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church at Bingen, to Family Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeast Indiana at Berne, or to The Village of Heritage.
    The family of Margaret Scherer is so very grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff of The Village of Heritage Nursing Home in Monroeville. Margaret was always treated with love, dignity, and respect.
