Lunch prices at North Adams Community Schools will increase next year, and the hike is entirely due to mandates being handed down by the federal government, school board members were told Tuesday.
Erin Ripley, food service director for the school district, reported to the board that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has developed a statistical formula for its National School Lunch Program and has set a minimum price for school lunches. "The control has kind of been taken out of our hands," Ripley said.
Most lunch prices at North Adams will increase by 10 cents next school year. The new lunch fees will $2 for students in kindergarten through fourth grade; $2.10 for students in grades 5-12; and $3 for adults.
