Madison leads Squaws to win; Starfires defeated
Bellmont senior center Madison Schultz continued her inside dominance Saturday night, scoring 15 points to lead Bellmont to a 50-41 victory over Heritage in an area non-conference girls basketball game.
Dana Kaczmarek scored nine points and Payton Schultz seven for Bellmont. No other statistical details were released by the school.
The win puts Bellmont at 2-1 on the season. The Squaws, with only a few practices with the entire team because of the state volleyball run, fell to Bishop Dwenger last Tuesday in the season opener, then came back and won a big road game at Jay County on Friday night, 39-34.
Madison Schultz has been the scoring leader in all three games, and has 44 points to day.
Also in the game Saturday night, the jayvee team from Bellmont scored a 28-21 win, also improving to 2-1 on the season. Alexa Singleton scored 7 and Brooke Zimmerman tallied 6.
Bellmont is at Fort Wayne South Side tonight.
Panthers defeat Lady Starfires
UPLAND — Eastbrook jumped out 12-2 at the first stop and cruised to a 51-15 girls varsity basketball victory over South Adams Friday night.
Danielle Gerdt scored 15 points to lead the Panthers while Lauren Heeter tallied 14, Kerri Guffey eight and Korissa Kitts eight points.
Lyndsey Chandler, Kartina Hawkins and Dzejna Ahtemtovic all scored four points for South Adams. Alyssa Bluhm added two points while Allison Amstutz hit one of four free throws for one point for the 1--2 Starfires.
Early foul trouble hurt Ahmetovic and center Taylor Farlow. The Starfires committed a season-high 39 turnovers against the Eastbrook press.
The Stars hit 7 of 23 from the field and 1 of 7 from the line, had 11 steals, 5 assists and a blocked shot.
Hawkins had four rebounds and two assists. Chandler added three rebounds and two steals while Ahmetovic had two rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot. Kristen Muselman had three rebounds, a steal and two assists for the Stars while Bluhm added two rebounds and two steals. Bailee Green added two steals.
