Ludella L. McDowell

    Ludella L. McDowell, 101, formerly of Decatur, passed away at 1:55 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2011, at Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne.
    She was born on November 27, 1910, in Berne to Benhardt and Dinah (Habegger) Lehman.
    She married John McDowell on March 23, 1979; he passed away on September 1, 1986.
    She is survived by a son, John W. (Judy) Schertz of Morton, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Treva Lehman of Berne; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eventt and Ernst Lehman, and two sisters, Florine Beer and Bernice Schertz.
    Ludella was a former member of First Mennonite Church in Berne and also attended Decatur Church of God.
    She worked as a homemaker and also did some clerical work.
    Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur.
    The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2011, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, with Chaplain Anita Rediger officiating.
    Burial will take place in M.R.E. Cemetery, rural Berne.
    Memorials may be made to First Mennonite Church, Woodcrest Retirement Community's Nursing Center, or Family LifeCare at Berne.
