John R. Zintsmaster was the oldest son, born to the Lester R Zintsmaster, former Decatur car dealer, and Clara Teresa Kearney of West Virginia. Alice Beineke Zintsmaster was the youngest daughter, born to Albert Beineke and June Blossom Burkhart, local farmer and business investor in the Decatur area. Both passed away this year in Scottsdale, Ariz., after 58 years of marriage. Alice passed away on March 24, 2013, her loyal and loving husband, John, passed away five months later on Aug. 20, 2013.
Alice was born on a local farm in the Decatur area, attended a one-room school and later graduated from Adams High School as Salutatorian. She attended Indiana University until she married John on June 26, 1954.
John was born in Huntington, W.Va. His mother passed away when he was eight years old. After being raised by his uncle, John Kearney, he relocated to Decatur with his father. He graduated from Decatur Catholic High School. He later graduated from General Motors Institute in Flint, Mich.
After their marriage the couple settled down in Decatur and operated a service station. Then they purchased the Muncie Auto Auction, after which they relocated to Kokomo to purchase and run Zintsmaster Chevrolet. In 1968, they moved to Fort Wayne, where they owned an American Motors dealership. In 2001, after years in the car business, they retired to Scottsdale.
John is survived by his siblings, Gretchen Zintsmaster of Flordia, Anita (Zintsmaster) Bouma, Dan Zintsmaster of Costa Rica, Mary Ann (Zinstmaster) Corbett of California and Jane Zintsmaster of Florida.
Alice is survived by her niece, Julie Noblitt, and nephew, Joel Houk, both of whom reside in Decatur with their spouses, children and grandchildren.
John and Alice are both survived by their five children and 12 grandchildren: John Andrew (Barbara) Zintsmaster, JD, of Flushing, Mich. and their children, John S. (Gabriela MD) Zintsmaster, PHD of San Francisco, Michael (Melanie) Zintsmaster, MD, who are expecting a son to be born in November, of Beverly Hills, Mich., Stephen (Heather) Zintsmaster of Royal Oak, Mich., Tom (Gabriela)Zintsmaster of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., and Kathleen Zintsmaster of Flushing, Mich., Thomas (Julie) Zintsmaster of Denver, Col., Anthony (Annette) Zintsmaster of Clio, Mich., Lisa (Larry C. Bradford, CPA) Zintsmaster, JD, LLM of Austin, Texas, and their children and grandchildren, Stacey (Ryan) Baganz and their children, Brooks and Chance Baganz of Dallas, Teas, Andrew (Andrea) Bradford and their child, Wyatt Bradford of Austin, Texas, Julia Augusta (Alex Abbed) Jones of London, United Kingdom, James Kenton Jones III of Laredo, Texas, and Matthew Zintsmaster Hernandez of Austin, Texas, Maria(Doug) Zintsmaster Swinford, CPA of Scottsdale and Sohia Swinford of Scottsdale.
In accordance with both of their wishes they have been returned to their home of Decatur for their final resting place.
A memorial service will be held at their Greenwood Cemetery gravesite, 1824 W. Monroe St., Decatur, at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 9, with Father Dave Voors presiding.
