Louis A. Wolpert

     Louis A. Wolpert, 91, of Decatur, died Friday, October 19, 2012, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    He was born in Adams County on December 13, 1920, to the late Joseph L. and Veronica E. (Sheeter) Wolpert.
    On April 17, 1948, he married Vera C. Lengerich; she preceded him in death on November 30, 2006.
    Louis was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, where he was an usher for many years. He also sang in the St. Mary’s Choir and was in the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 864 and the American Legion Post 43. He also sang in the Barbershop Chorus.
    He was a bartender at Riverview Gardens for 11 years, managed the Elks for 13 years, and lastly he co-owned and operated the West End Restaurant for 19 years.
    Louis served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was Captain of the Infantry and earned the honor of a Bronze Star.
    Among survivors are four sons, Michael L. (Jean) Wolpert of Bay Village, Ohio, James A. (Cathey) Wolpert of Davis, Calif., Philip T. (Jackie) Wolpert of Decatur; and Charles E. (Sundra) Wolpert of Lafayette; three daughters, Louise A. Wolpert and Rita J. Wolpert, both of Decatur, and Teresa R. (James) Vernon of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
    Visitation will be from noon-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
    A mass of Christian burial will held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 22, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with calling one hour prior to the service at St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Fr. David Voors will be presiding.
    Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
    Preferred memorials are to St. Mary’s Building On Our Heritage or to Masses.
