Lorenz E. Steele

    Lorenz E. Steele, 93, Decatur, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at the Adams Memorial Hospital Emergency Room following a sudden illness.
    He was born on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1919, in Harrison Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Edwin and Bertha (Krueckeberg) Steele. He married Irene M. Aumann on July 27, 1947, at St John Lutheran Church, Bingen, and she survives.
    Lorenz was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theater of operations and being honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Decatur, Where he was past chairman, trustee, member of the church choir and also the Men's Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #43, the Lutheran Laymen's League and a former member of the Union Township Lion's Club. Lorenz was a lifelong farmer in Harrison Township, Ohio; retiring in 1982.
    Among survivors are two sons, Daniel D. (Linda) Steele and James L. (Scherry) Steel, both of Decatur; a daughter, Carol Steele Seip of Ohio City, Ohio; a sister, Lucille (Marvin) Stoppenhagen of Ossian; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
    Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
    Burial will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with Military Graveside Services conducted by the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur.
    Preferred memorials are to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Worship for Shut-ins.
