Leroy V. Hoagland, 90, of Monroe, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012, at Adams County Extended Care Woodcrest.
He was born on August 4, 1922, to the late Clarence and Beatrice (Whittenbarger) Hoagland.
Leroy married his wife of 68 years, Ruth (Hannie) Hoagland, on December 18, 1943; she survives in Monroe.
He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where he served as a trustee for years. He served on the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department, volunteered at Adams Memorial Hospital and served on the Sheriff's Reserves from 1966-1991. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion at Post 43 and the Moose Lodge 1311.
Leroy worked at Central Soya (Bunge) from 1946-1965 and then worked for G.E. in Decatur, retiring in 1986 after 21 years of service.
Among survivors are a son, Don L. Hoagland of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Carol (Michael) Fuelling of Monroe; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, also at the funeral home, with Rev. Randy Rossman officiating.
Burial will take place in the Decatur Cemetery.
