Leroy A. Kolter, 80, of Bluffton and a longtime resident of rural Decatur, went to his eternal home on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013.
He was born in Adams County on January 22, 1933, to the late Rudolph H. and Adella R. (Kruetzman) Kolter. He married his wife of 62 years, Pauline Rupert on August 25, 1951, in the Monroe United Methodist Church, and she survives.
Leroy was a 1951 graduate of Adams Central High School and retired in 1991 from Automatic Sprinkler in Monroe, with 29 years of service. He was also a former dairy farmer in Adams County. He was a member of Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren and previously Salem United Church of Christ, where he was the former president of the congregation and served on the church board for many years.
Leroy was a charter member of the first Adams Central Booster Club and had coached baseball for many years. He enjoyed baseball, woodworking and lawn care. He was an avid Adams Central sports fan and loved the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team. He loved gathering with members of his family, especially on the holidays.
Among survivors are a son, Barry (Kathy) Kolter of Decatur; a daughter, Vickie (Mark) Zurcher of Monroe; a sister, Agnes Alt of Decatur; five grandchildren, Travis (Natilie) Kolter, Lindsey (Keith) Beer, Jared (Lauren) Kolter, Brittney (Jonathan) Meier and Kristin Kolter; and six great-grandchildren, Hallie, Kaden and Brylie Kolter, Della Kolter and Kale and Kley Beer.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Borne; and a brother, Raymond Kolter.
Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday with Pastor Jay Carter Officiating.
Burial will be at the Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren or Monroe Youth League.
