Leroy F. Walters

    Leroy F. Walters, 77, of rural Decatur, went to his heavenly home on January 26, 2011.
    Leroy was born on August 9, 1933, in Adams County to the late Forrest S. and Xariffa M. (Barkley) Walters.
    He married Ruth M. Gephart on March 27, 1959; she died on February 6, 1995. He married Sherril M. Bentz on May 24, 1997, and she survives.
    Leroy was a lifelong resident of Adams County. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Decatur and its Alpha and Omega Sunday School class. He was also a McDonald’s Coffee Club member and an avid square dancer.
    He retired in 1995 after 27 years of service with American Electric Power and was a lifetime farmer.
    He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
    Leroy is survived by his wife, Sherril M. Walters of Decatur; three daughters, Mrs. Rebecca M. (Ernie) Suman and Mrs. Patricia A. (Rick) Rumschlag of Decatur and Miss Amy S. Walters of Columbia City; three stepsons, Mike (Marcie) Bentz of Scottdale, Pennsylvania; Vaughn (Elizabeth) Bentz of Archbold, Ohio; and Max (Donna) Bentz of New Hamburg, Ontario, Canada; one stepdaughter, Sheri (Ed) Smith of St. Petersburg, Florida; six grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Marcella Springer.
    Visitation is 2-8 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2011, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to services at the church.
    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011, in First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Martha Lyon officiating.
    Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 43.
    Memorials are to First United Methodist Church's video ministry or to Family Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeast Indiana at Berne.
