Leo takes five top spots in ACAC tennis tourney

    MONROE— The Leo Lady Lions dominated the ACAC tennis match at Adams Central’s home Saturday afternoon earning all three first-team conference spots in singles as well as two spots as the top doubles team as well.
    Jen Timbrook won the singles title for the Lions after earning a first-round bye as Leo’s number one player. She defeated Olivia Mishler in the quarters 6-1, 6-2 after AC’s number 3 upset Maddie Graber of South Adams 6-4, 2-6, (11-13).
    AC’s Jenna Lehman defeated SA’s Maddy Kloepper in a super tie-break 6-3, 1-6, (10-5) to advance to the quarters against Bluffton’s number one Rachel Bertsch. Lehman downed Bertsch in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to get to Timbrook. The Leo junior bested Lehman in the semi-finals 6-2, 6-2.
    In the bottom bracket for singles play, Annya Molman (#3) upset Lauren Stauffer of Bluffton (#2) 6-4, 6-2, then set her sights on AC’s number one Whitney Peterson where she won in a super tie-break set 6-3, 4-6, (6-10).
    Leo’s Haley Parker defeated the Starfires’ Brittany Potts 7-5, 6-0 in the quarters but lost to teammate Mohlman in the semis 6-4, 5-7, (8-10) setting up an all-Leo final where Timbrook won with ease 6-2, 6-2.
    In the third place match, Parker defeated AC’s Lehman 6-0, 6-2 giving all three top slots to Leo. Lehman was honored with second team as was Peterson who won her fifth place final over Bertsch 6-3, 7-5.
    Central’s Abby Snyder and Katie Carroll were the favorites to win doubles as the top seed as they bested Lea Hughbanks and Ashton Heidenreich of Leo in the opening round 6-2, 6-2. The AC duo would go on to beat the Stars’ Kylea Pierce and Riley Liechty in the semi-finals 6-1, 6-2 but were upset by Leo’s number one duo of Abbey Keele and Seven Weiland in the championship 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). The loss was the first of the year for Snyder/Carroll.
