Lehman: ‘We shouldn’t have had school’

March 13, 2014

North Adams Superintendent Brent Lehman has taken responsibility for the decision to keep North Adams Community Schools open Wednesday despite adverse weather conditions.
“The decision was made at 6 a.m. while it was still raining and 34 degrees,” Lehman explained. He accepted full responsibility for the decision, saying the call was his and he regrets the decision.
“It’s one of those things when you don’t know what the weather is going to do,” Lehman stated. “If I could remake that decision, it would have been for a two-hour delay. That way when it started to get bad out we could have cancelled.”
The decision left many parents upset, with some stating on social media their children were in danger during the ride to school. That concern was amplified by a school bus going into a ditch with children on board.
