Late filing costs Geneva

November 8, 2012

Geneva Clerk-Treasurer Bill Warren told council members at Tuesday's council meeting that he was informed by the Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) that the proposed 2013 town budget will not be approved for the requested amount of $574,767.
Warren said he missed a technical "growth factor" deadline which was for a property tax review form for non-binding review. The deadline was Sept. 4, but Warren submitted the information on Sept. 5.
According to Warren, the DLGF said the deadline was firm and will result in the town being approved for the same budget amount it had in 2012, which is $20,980 less than the amount proposed for 2013.
Warren said that the town will still be able to operate effectively without a budget increase.
