Late blast ends Lady Starsâ€™ season at Eastside, 6-5
BUTLER—A two-run homerun in the top of the sixth inning proved to be the final straw against South Adams as the Lady Stars' season ended in a dramatic 6-5 loss at the hands of the host Eastside in sectional play.

After a single with one out by Ellie Parker, the Blazers' lead-off batter, Kerrisa Lockwood, belted a two-run blast to give Eastside their final lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, SA loaded the bases when Lauren Smith reached on an error at first base, then Olivia Turner singled and Alyssa Bluhm reached on a fielder's choice. With one out already, Eastside pitcher Ashton Miller manufactured a pop up and a ground ball to get out of the jam.
"We had our opportunities," SA coach Jessie O'Dell noted. "We played a solid game and Eastside made one more play than us and we got beat."
In the seventh, Alexis Ford reached on a one-out single but then the Stars grounded into a double play ending their season.
Through much of the game, the Lady Stars held the lead after scoring two in the first, then another in the third inning to lead 3-0.
Bluhm led the Stars' first inning off with a single, and was moved over by a Maddie Morgan bunt. Alaina Johnston doubled in Bluhm from second and eventually scored on the same play when the shortstop committed an error.
In the third, Morgan doubled and was scored when Johnston came through again with a triple this time.
It wasn't until the top of the fifth that Eastside made their move. SA pitcher Loren Sparks had pitched well for the first four innings, then she committed an error to start the inning and gave up a double to Lockwood scoring Parker from second to make it 3-1.
A few batters later, Kara Beery doubled in two more runs to tie the game and eventually scored when Leah Ward doubled to make it 4-3 Eastside.
