Honorary co-chairs Lou Koning and Katie Birch, along with Lou's wife, Vicky, got things started Saturday as they walked the ceremonial first lap during the Relay for Life held at Adams Central's football stadium.
Others participating included young cancer survivor Ebony Fawcett, who walked with her mom, Beth Ann, and another young cancer survivor Halle Williams-Seip, who walked with her mother, Ciera Williams, and aunt Sydnie Williams (see accompanying photo).
A large crowed turned out for the annual event, held under sunny skies and and hot conditions during the daylight hours.
This year's event broke from tradition and began at noon on Saturday rather than Friday evening.
