HARTFORD CITY—South Adams began their young volleyball season on Monday night when they traveled to Blackford to meet up with the Bruins.
Despite a reserve win, the varsity was a three-set victim to Blackford 25-22, 25-19, 25-14.
"It was a tough loss because we did not come out as strong as I would have liked to see," admitted SA coach Amie Sprunger. "We are holding our heads up high and looking forward to another match this week against Canterbury on Thursday."
Alyssa Bluhm and Cindy Int'Groen led the Stars with six kills apiece as Bluhm also added three blocks, a pair of aces, eight digs, and five assists and Int'Groen was responsible for a block and three digs.
Morgan Alberson had two kills, three digs, and two assists in her first varsity action, while Emma Rosswurm recorded a block, five digs, and 11 assists in her first effort.
Cady Farlow aided the defense with nine digs and a block as well as three kills, while Lauren Smith had eight digs and a pair of aces. Kylea Pierce had three digs, Abby Myers had four, and frosh Carlie Farlow had three aces.
"We are looking to be more cohesive and vocal on the court," noted coach Sprunger. "Abby Myers and Carlie Farlow came off the bench for us and did a great job from the JV squad."
Coach Sprunger noted the limited number of kills from her heavy hitters in the loss.
"We need to make better passes so we can run some better set attempts to get Bluhm and Cady Farlow the ball at the net for more opportunities."
