Lady Stars fall 0-4 after loss to Union City

BERNE— The Starfires fought valiantly in a game that featured only six different varsity players on the floor for first year coach Ryan Cunningham as South Adams continues to struggle early in the season falling to an 0-4 record with a 52-37 defeat at the hands of Union City on Saturday night.

Injuries have been plaguing the Stars thus far in the young season as three of their players have gone down with concussions, the latest being key post player, freshman Sharon Balsiger, who sat out the game Saturday night along with junior Kristen Muselman and senior Logan Chandler who also are recovering from concussion-like symptoms.
The Starfires got a few good performances out of the players that did see the floor, however. Sophomore star Dzenjna Ahmetovic scored 11 points and snatched 13 rebounds along with dishing out two assists and swatting three shots.
The surprise of the evening was the stellar play by freshman point guard Lauren Smith, who posted a team-high 14 points on six of ten shooting with three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
The Lady Starfires will play at Bluffton on Friday evening with the JV starting at 6 p.m.
