Bellmont and Adams Central did battle on the softball field at the Teepee on Monday night with the Jets coming away with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to stun the Squaws, 6-4.
AC improves to 2-0 on the come from behind win against a quality Squaws team. Lindsey McDougall was a critical part of the win with a two-RBI single with one out in the seventh.
"McDougall's hit was the key hit in the victory," coach Cary Blake stated.
After a quick AC out, Alyssa Keller drew a walk and then Sammie Baker was safe at first on a fielder's choice. An Olivia Macklin single to left field loaded the bases for the Lady Jets, which led to McDougall's single. AC would tack on an insurance run on junior Bess Fiechter's squeeze bunt scoring Macklin.
Bellmont led most of the game as they jumped out front in the bottom of the first with a three-run outburst. Senior Mikala Quinn singled and then catcher Courtney Scherer legged out an infield hit. The bases were loaded when senior Brieann Burkhalter was hit by a Sydnee Peterson pitch.
Senior Lauren Bowman would single in Quinn for the Squaws' first run, junior Taylor Kuhnle would reach on a fielders choice scoring Scherer and then Natalie McConnell would plate the third run when she grounded into another fielder's choice.
The AC fourth brought the Lady Jets back to life as they scored three to tie the game up after going three innings without a run.
Fiechter lead off the inning with a single followed by another Keller single with two outs. Macklin would walk to load the bases and McDougall would get her third RBI on the day when she reached on an error giving AC their first run. Senior Alexa Baller would come up big for AC getting a two-RBI single knotting the game up at 3-3.
Bellmont travels to Concordia tomorrow and Adams Central hosts Wayne at the Hangar.
