BERNE— While the boys were out wrestling at Jay County, there was another cross-county rivalry going on at the Stardome where the Lady Starfires hosted the Lady Jets of Adams Central where the Jets got the better of the home team, 52-38 during their Saturday night ACAC contest.

"We knew we were going to have to play 32 minutes tonight," AC coach Sam Beer said after the contest. "They play hard the entire game and we never let up."
Central and the Stars came into the night at the bottom of the ACAC conference, but the atmosphere felt like the teams were fighting for the title thanks to the fan support from both squads.
AC jumped out in front early with a 9-2 run thanks to a pair of baskets from seniors Alyssa Keller and Madison Carroll as well as a few South Adams turnovers that turned into lay-ups at the other end for the Jets. South Adams would get as close as 13-9, but then the Jets would finish the quarter with a pair of Lindsey McDougall free throws when she was fouled at the buzzer off of an offensive rebound making the score 18-12 after one.
The Stars would get no closer for the rest of the game.
In the second quarter the Jets ballooned the lead to 21-12 to start the quarter when Keller, who finished with a game-high 14 shared with Carroll, stole the ball, drove the length of the court and finished with a basket and the foul. Senior Jenae Blackburn finished with nine for AC.
"Our senior leadership won out tonight. Our three leading scorers were seniors that penetrated and got in the lane for some good shots," praised coach Beer.
In the JV contest, the Stars shot 6% from the field making only three field goals in what would be a recipe for disaster that caused a 38-14 finish in favor of the Jets. Eight of the Stars' points came from the foul line. The Jets were led by freshman Sarah Fiechter who had her best game of the season scoring 12 from the field including a pair of three-pointers.
The Stars travel to Manchester on Thursday night, while the Jets host Norwell tomorrow night before sectionals begin next week.
