Knights’ goal holds up in 1-0 win over Braves

With Norwell pressing in on the Bellmont goal, Jaron Moser was able to recover a loose ball and popped a shot high from 20 yards out. The ball came down and just underneath the crossbar for the only goal of the game in the 78th minute as the visiting Knights defeated Bellmont 1-0 for the 2010 Bellmont Boys Soccer Sectional championship Saturday night.
This match was not quite a replay of the regular season match in which Norwell also won that match 1-0 and there were some rather big swings in momentum. Saturday's contest was even in virtually every respect from the passing to the possession to the play. Both teams played the ball up the middle with the exception of a few crosses from the outside. Both teams had some good chances to take the score in their favor, especially when the crosses played through to the far side of the goal, except that there never seemed to be a man in position on the far side to receive the cross.
The first half went by scoreless. The lone goal came during the second half of the match.
During that 78th minute of play, Norwell offense had closed in on the Braves' back line with the ball. Damon Topp, who had recovered the ball from the outside, was dribbling back toward the middle of the field just outside the top of the penalty box. The Braves' defenders were able to stop Topp, but during the take-away the ball got loose. Moser got to the ball first and immediately booted the ball towards the goal. The ball came down and just underneath the crossbar for the winning goal.
The Braves poured it on during the last twelve minutes but were unable to answer the Norwell goal. The match closed out with a score of 1-0 and the Knights' taking home the trophy.
With the loss to Norwell, Bellmont closed out the season with an overall record of 7-10-1.
