    Kenneth P. Birch, 82, of Decatur, died on Sunday, September 25, 2011, at his residence.
    Kenneth was born on June 2, 1929, in Forest, Illinois, to Sylvester and Ethel (Knuckles) Birch.
    On March 16, 1970, he married Betty G. Arnold.
    Kenneth was a member of Decatur Church of God and a former member of the Pleasant Mills Lions Club.
    He was mechanic for Slater Stainless Steel for 40 years.
    Survivors are his wife, Betty Birch of Decatur; three sons, Kenneth E. Birch and Craig E. (Terri) Birch of Decatur and Jeffrey P. (Amy Miller) Birch of Convoy, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Nancy (David) Luginbill of Monroe; Mrs. Paula (John) Gutierrez of Paulding, Ohio; and Mrs. Marnie (Steve) Shaffer of Decatur; a brother, Russell (Vivian) Birch of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by two daughters, four sisters, and three brothers.
    Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, from 2-8 p.m. at Haggard, Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur.
    The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Decatur Church of God. Pastor Jerry Mitchel will be officiating.
    Burial will be in Backesto/Spring Hill Cemetery, rural Berne.
