KOKOMO—About an hour away from their Lady Jet counter-parts battling for a 2A state title in softball, the men from Adams Central were in a struggle of their own to get back to the state title game for the first time since 2001.
The Jets ran into a brick wall named Ryan Keaffaber, however, as the Northfield Norsemen ended Adams Central's fantastic road to the state title game in a 5-1 victory.
Keaffaber led the Norsemen to the title game win last season as a junior and will look to repeat as a senior next Saturday in Indy after dismissing the Jets. With the complete game win on the mound against AC, the senior is now the all-time leader in Indiana for wins in a career as he is 47-4 (13-1 this year) topping Steve DeRoos of Wheeler who accomplished a 46-win slate in 1987.
"He's good," admitted AC coach Dave Neuenschwander after the loss. "I told the guys that if he's that good to shut us down than I'll tip my hat to him and that's what he did. He's a smart pitcher and knows when to throw his pitches. We knew coming in that this was going to have to be a 2-0, 2-1 kind of game to win."
