June cycle event taking shape

April 4, 2013

While new details on the city's second sculpture tour were unveiled at Tuesday night's Decatur City Council meeting, further details also were given council on yet another large event scheduled here this summer: the ABATE of Indiana Region 0's annual Mayor's Ride.
Region Director Teresa Bodle talked about plans for the American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE) event to be held here on Sunday, June 2. It will be the third time the group has brought its Mayor's Ride to Decatur, and the first two were huge successes.
Upwards of 150 or more motorcycles are expected for the event, which will begin earlier in the day in Fort Wayne and then head for Decatur with a massive line of bikes.
Also with Bodle at the meeting was Mike Whitesell, whom she called her "right hand."
Bodle outlined promotions and advertising being done to "get the word out to the public," as well as street closings she requested and was granted.
The event will be situated around the courthouse square starting at approximately noon. Some downtown merchants and others will be open, including those serving food.
Following are some of the attractions:
    • Food.
    • Live music.
    • A tots vehicle course.
    • Josh Borne's motorcycle stunt show.
    • Razz "M Jazz dancers.
    • A MMA (mixed martial arts) exhibition.
Bodle also said she is working on bringing in a professional arm wrestler!
